Cake with Marie Antoinette

delpha make upEver up for a challenge, when asked to be the MC for International Women’s Day Charity cabaret at the Acorn Theatre, Penzance in March 2013, I said ‘Yes’ and started developing a new ‘alter-ego’ character based around Marie Antoinette.

A bit of historical and contextual research revealed how she has been re-vised and re-written, and I became fascinated by the ways in which history defines and confines women. I think my first attempt at stand up comedy was a relative success and would like to continue developing performances where audiences could be invited to eat cake, ask questions and interact in a performance of humour and history, whilst considering art, and gender in contemporary culture.
