This art work explored time-based video, repetition and replay in relation to live performance. Humorously engaging with masquerade and playing with women histories and historicity, I took everyone for a walk around the grounds of Blossomfield House, Solihull, as Jane Austen. The event was documented and repeated without an audience, and the resulting film was spliced together with 2 time frames, and a manipulated Phillip Glass soundtrack. 

As well as theoretically re-claiming walking for women as a ‘feminist discourse’ (Rebecca Solnit, Wanderlust although the performance and film was made before this was published), the work is about exploring the veracity of history and of time, and its constructs. It mocks ‘bodice-ripping’ romance genres as yet another way women are categorised and objectivised. It plays with writing and in-authenticity. Engaging audiences poetically through additional material from Mallarme, the performance hoped to re-vision histories and cultural tropes that confine representations of women and the spaces they inhabit.

The film was available and hosted online for many years at DVBLOG and is available on DVD at the Live Art Development Agency in London.
