SMEAR was a series of performance-film collaborations with Helen Battelley made in 2005 when we worked together as ‘Rubber Glove’ – despite children, child care and distance.
Smear was a series of short films shot at home featuring Helen and messy substances that explored the messiness of women’s lived experience and as a metaphor for how women are ‘smeared’ or ‘tarred with the same brush’ of language, invisibly and confinement. There’s more that needs to be added to this page and films need to be added.
